Bakery goods an 'afforable indulgence' for customers

As inflation’s rising costs impact the wallets of Americans everywhere, people are looking for little ways they can still indulge without spending a lot of money. It turns out bakery treats are one of those ways, according to a new study.

Anne-Marie Roerink, principal of 210 Analytics, revealed during the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas on Sept. 18, 2022, that “baked items are an affordable indulgence,” that consumers have “an emotional connection to.”

Roerink was presenting the American Bakers Association study “Life Through the Lens of Bakery 2022” that revealed 84% of consumers view baked goods as a permissible treat. According to the survey, consumers believe “it is perfectly fine to occasionally treat yourself with some baked treats.”
